The PLACE outing to Grass Wood on June 8th took place in perfect weather!   James Ferguson of the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust gave us a wonderful tour of the nature reserve, pointing out  the current management work and discussing plans for the future. The spring flowers were at their best: carpets of bluebells made a lovely woodland setting. Among the rare plants seen were herb Paris, lily-of-the-valley, early purple orchid, rockrose and bird’s-eye primrose. Lunch was eaten at Fort Gregory – a Romano-British site on the top of the hill. The visit was much enjoyed by 21 people and one small dog.
