PLACE has just published a new book by Margaret Atherden and Nan Sykes, entitled:
WILD FLOWERS ON THE EDGE: The Story of North Yorkshire’s Road Verges.

PLACE, 2012.  ISBN: 978-1-906604-40-0

Book cover

This lavishly illustrated book, with colour pictures on every page, explains the history, management and many uses of road verges and their importance for wildlife. It reveals how the treatment of verges affects both their visual appeal and their role as a last refuge for diminishing populations of bees and other pollinating insects.  It guides the reader through the identification of over 300 wild flowers to be found on our verges, using English names throughout and a minimum of jargon. The book will be of interest to all road users and to anyone with concern for wildlife in today’s countryside.

WILD FLOWERS ON THE EDGE is available from PLACE at the discount price of £9.95  + £2.50 P & P (normal retail price £14.99).  To order your copy, send a cheque, payable to PLACE, to: PLACE Office, York St John University, Lord Mayor’s Walk, York, YO31 7EX. E-mail: [email protected]

The book is also available from York Publishing Services, 64 Hallfield Road, Layerthorpe, York, YO31 7ZQ.
