Walking in the Footsteps of William Smith – a geological trail around the Hackness area

Posted on

PLACE has recently published a geological trail which takes visitors around some of the landmarks surveyed by William Smith in the Hackness area of the North York Moors, where he worked for some years. Written by Peter Robinson, the trail not only traces notable places where Smith worked but it also gives lots of background information on the area, including geology, geomorphology and botany, not to mention architectural features such as the church and hall. To see the cover, please click on the link below.

The price is £2.00 per copy plus £1.50 P & P. It is available from the PLACE Office.  To purchase a copy, please send a cheque to: Dr Margaret Atherden, PLACE Office, York St John University, Lord Mayor’s Walk, York, YO31 7EX.
