Visit to Ripon Workhouse Museum and Markenfield Hall

On Sunday 12th June 2011, 27 PLACE members and friends visited the Ripon area.  In the morning we were shown around the Ripon Workhouse Museum and garden, which gave us a fascinating insight into conditions for the poor in Victorian England.  In the afternoon, we had a guided tour of Markenfield Hall, a fourteenth century moated house tucked away a few miles south of Ripon. Both the inside of the house and the exterior were extremely interesting.  Below are some pictures of our visit.
