Spring conference on Yorkshire Textile Manufacture

Don’t miss the PLACE spring conference, to be held on Saturday 9th March in Queens Hall, Burley-in-Wharfedale. The conference is entitled, ‘A Noble Scene of Industry’: Cultural Landscapes of Yorkshire Textile Manufacture.

There will be four talks during the morning:

  • George Sheeran – Introduction: Yorkshire textiles – types, processes and locations
  • Colum Giles – Halifax and its area: a textiles landscape 1500-1900?
  • Alan Petford – Settlement, society and textiles: Saddleworth 1750-1900
  • Nigel Grizzard – ‘From Loom to Bedroom’: changing the use of Yorkshire’s mills.

In the afternoon there will be a guided walk around Burley-in-Wharfedale, led by Terry O’Connor.
