Short course, ‘Six Yorkshire Legacies’

Posted on

Our last short course, led by Dr Michael Hopkinson, was entitled: ‘Six Yorkshire Legacies’.
The course  examined the role of a group of Yorkshire personalities who had a lasting influence on the city and county, living during the “long 19th century” (1750 to 1920):  John Carr (architect), George Hudson (railway magnate), the Rowntree family (housing and welfare), Titus Salt (industrialist), the Sitwells (literature) and William Etty (painter and conservationist).  The last session was held in York Art Gallery, where we viewed the current exhibition on William Etty.

The book to follow the course will be published early in the New Year.
