Middleham Castle visit an uplifting experience

Posted on

Our outing to Middleham Castle on Saturday 15th June was a fitting climax to the short course led by Robert Wright, ‘Six Yorkshire Castles’. PLACE members were guided round expertly by Robert, who explained the layout of the site and the uses of the various rooms. Most of us managed to get to the top of the magnificent keep, from which there is an expansive view over Middleham village and the rest of Wensleydale. A walk up to the old motte and bailey, the site of the original wooden castle, completed the visit. Many thanks to Robert for a lovely afternoon in the sunshine and a fascinating short course.
