Visit to Cawthorn Roman Camps and beaver enclosure
25 Aug 2021
Location: Cropton, Pickering
Details
Meet at 3.00pm at Cawthorne Camps (SE 784896). Access is from the minor road between Cropton and Newton-on Rawcliffe, c.3 miles north of Pickering. We shall have a guided walk around this Roman site, led by Brian Walker. Bring a picnic tea with you. Access is good and there are well-made paths around the site.
We shall then move to Keldy and park in a lay-by (SE 776908) at 5.30pm. Cath Bashforth of Forestry England will show us around the beaver enclosure. We shall then sit and wait for the beavers to appear, which may take some time! Access is by narrow earth tracks and the ground undulates somewhat. Please wear boots or stout footwear and warm clothing. Participants must assess their abilities before booking. NB There is no mobile phone reception.
Numbers for the beaver enclosure are limited to 10 people. Cost: £5.00 per head.
